Parish Health Profiles
2005 Parish Health Profiles
The Parish Health Profiles provide information to help promote and improve health outcomes in communities. They are tools that can be used to develop policy, write grants, develop new initiatives, improve existing programs, and assist in evaluation efforts for developing and maintaining "healthy communities."
The Parish Health Profiles (PHP) are published by the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, Office of Public Health, Policy, Planning and Evaluation section. Books are developed for each parish in Louisiana. The first PHP was published in 1992 with subsequent publications in 2000 and 2005.
Whats new for the 2009 PHP?
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita changed demographics and other important factors which influence health indicators. Data for population shifts, changing health determinants, environmental and economic factors have been greatly affected by the unprecedented storms of 2005. For 2009, the new PHP will attempt to address these factors and provide information for individuals to make informed decisions about their commu nitys health. The development of the PHP is being guided by a multidisciplinary steering committee and will include recommendations obtained from community leaders, stakeholders, residents, etc. through statewide community meetings.
