Lighten Up Louisiana is a Physical Activity Challenge that encourages Adults and Youth to develop healthy activity and eating habits. Louisiana Youth are encouraged to form teams of 10-30 people per team. Adults can have 2-10 per team and can compete as individual participants.
Adults
The Lighten Up Louisiana Biggest Loser Challenge launches January and concludes in June 2010. Adult teams that has the best weight-loss percentage at the end of the six-month program will win a Grand Prize that will be announced December 2009. Top ten teams, including the Grand Prize winner, will be eligible to win other prizes also. Drawings will be held each week for participants that consume the most fruits and veggies. After completing the six-month program, winners will be declared as follows:
Weight-Loss: Top 50 Teams and Top 50 Individuals
Accumulated Activity: Top 50 Teams and Top 50 Individuals
(All will receive a t-shirt and a certificate of completion. Those who do not finish in the top 50 in either category will still recieve a certificate.)
In the Accumulated Activity Challenge, team members and individual participants will be asked to complete a Challenge that will begin in January and conclude in June, 2010. Participants must complete their Challenges or reach their destinations at the compleion of the program. Winners will be determined by order of finish. For example, a team may be asked to walk to Miami with Shaquille O’Neal, to Dallas or Memphis with Miss Louisiana. Remember, teams will have a choice of Challenges to choose from and track their progress with other participants from around the state using Google Maps.
Weight Loss: Teams and Individual participants will enter their Honor Weight when they register at the beginning of the program. Honor weigh-ins can be repeated each week until June which will be the final weigh-in. The Lighten Up website will automatically calculate your weight loss percentage and compute your BMI (Body Mass Index) each and every time you enter your weight.
Youth
Youth under the age of 13, we recommend a parent, teacher or guardian serve as captain. Youth competition may be statewide or against Youth from another state. (competition will be announced in December) Youth are eligible for prizes with weekly drawings being held each week. LUL Youth will kick off in january through May 2010.
If you don’t prefer competition, that’s ok! You can still track you progress to a healthy way of life. Team and Individual challenges will recognize achievement in two areas:
-
Accumulated Activity in the form of miles and steps while completing a Challenge
-
Weight Loss due to a healthy, appropriate diet and physical activity
If you do not prefer competition, you may track your progress using the Public Routes, or you may create your own Challenge. You can choose to walk anywhere in the United States and the world using our Lighten Up Louisiana Google Maps. Once you get started with your Public Route, at every historical site along the way, pop-ups will appear notifying you of the prizes you could win!
