What is the Health Insurance Continuation Program (HICP)?
The Health Insurance Continuation Program (HICP) allows participants to remain under the care of their current health care providers by assisting eligible clients with the payment of premiums associated with single or group health insurance plans. HICP has been administered by HAP since 1992 and utilizes Ryan White CARE Act Part B funds.
HICP assists individuals living with HIV/AIDS in paying their health insurance premiums if they become unable to work or if they work but have an income that does not exceed 300% of the federal poverty level. This program will also assist eligible clients in applying for first-time coverage through the State's high risk insurance pool.
HICP coverage is also available for a period ranging from 18 to 29 months for individuals who have COBRA insurance through a former employer. Coverage may be provided for an unlimited period of time for those who have an individual insurance
