Louisiana Commission on Addictive Disorders

OUR GOAL:

Working to Encourage and Support the Awareness and Understanding of Alcoholism, Drug and Other Addictions



Whether it is helping you with alcohol and drug abuse cases in your regions and community , the CAD Commission members are always willing to encourage and support the awareness and understanding of alcoholism and drug addiction.

The Commission wants to develop ideas and programs that can help increase public awareness, treat adults and youth who need OAD services, prevent the abuse of alcohol and drug addiction as well as compulsive gambling.

The Commission on Addictive Disorders works in conjunction with many entities such as The Governor’s Drug Policy Board , The Louisiana Association on Compulsive Gambling , The Governors Safe & Drug Free School & Communities, The Louisiana Drug Court Association, The Louisiana Alliance to Prevent Underage Drinking to name a few.


- COMMISSION MEMBERS -

To implement the goal of the Louisiana CAD, this thirteen member body is selected by the Governor of the State and Senate approval. The Commission serves through its Executive Director, the Assistant Secretary of the Office for Addictive Disorders (OAD).

Commission members are responsible for the following:

  • Advising the Office for Addictive Disorders concerning policy of state with respect to alcohol and drug abuse
  • Recommending an annual State plan setting forth proposed policy, program
  • Serving as the liaison among state and local governmental entities concerning prevention and treatment of alcohol and drug abuse
  • Reporting to the Governor, the Chairs of the House and Senate Committees on Health & Welfare and to the Secretary of the Department of Health & Hospitals, the activities of the Commission and its previous year on an annual basis
