SHARe Information

Welcome to the OAAS SHARe Information Page

SHARe Overview:

The Office of Aging and Adult Services (OAAS) administers home and community based long term care services (HCBS) for individuals who are elderly or have disabilities, assisting them to remain in their homes in the community. The intent of these HCBS programs is to provide services and supports that are not otherwise available and that assist an individual to remain in or return to the community.  These programs do not individually or in combination provide 24 hour per day supports.  This means that in many cases it may be necessary and desirable for individuals to use other paid and unpaid supports at their disposal.

In order to optimize use of these programs in conjunction with other paid and unpaid supports, OAAS is implementing the Service Hour Allocation of Resources (SHARe) methodology. With this methodology, resources are allocated based on the individual’s acuity level derived from the Minimum Data Set – Home Care (MDS-HC) Resource Utilization Groups (RUG) scoring system. The MDS-HC  is a uniform assessment tool required for individuals seeking, or currently receiving OAAS home and community services. The SHARe methodology will provide individuals with a greater degree of freedom and flexibility of service delivery within each week to better accomodate individualized differences and preferences.

The SHARe methodology is to be used for the allocation of resources of all OAAS HCBS programs with the exception of ADHC-only certifications for all initial, annual, and status change assessments completed on or after March 1, 2009 and thereafter.

In light of these recent changes, the OAAS has set up this SHARe Information web page as a means of facilitating ongoing communication related to SHARe implementation issues with Support Coordination agencies, DHH Contracted agencies, and Direct Service Provider agencies.
