About Us

The Office of Aging and Adult Services (OAAS) is charged with coordinating statewide home and community-based waiver services, as well as Long Term Personal Care Services (LT-PCS) for eligible elderly and disabled adults who require specialized supports and services to remain in their homes and communities.

The OAAS is entrusted with the task of determining medical eligibility and assuring that these individuals can safely be served in their home and communities.  The OAAS is also entrusted with assuring that individuals are afforded the opportunity to live in a safe environment while directing their lives based on their desired personal outcomes.  Supports and services are provided as a supplement to natural supports while supporting dignity, quality of life, and security in the everyday lives of people.

The OAAS is divided into nine Regional Offices:

The Department of Health and Hospitals offers community-based services and supports for people who are elderly or disabled through Medicaid Home and Community Based Waiver Programs, and/or Medicaid Long Term Personal Care Services (LT-PCS). These services and supports allow Louisiana citizens to have greater flexibility to choose where they want to live, and the services and supports that best suit their needs.

Types of Home and Community Based Waivers currently available in Louisiana include:

  • the New Opportunities Waiver (NOW) for the Developmentally Disabled (DD) population
  • Elderly and Disabled Adults (EDA)Waiver
  • Adult Day Health Care (ADHC) Waiver
  • Children's Choice

Each waiver has specific service packages and eligibility requirements.  Each waiver program is limited in the number of opportunities for service, sometimes called "slots," that are available.
