Mission and Vision

The mission of the Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (HDSP) program is to develop basic heart disease and stroke coordination, scientific capacity, inventory of policy and environmental strategies, state plan for heart disease and stroke, training and technical assistance, strategies for addressing priority populations, and intervention strategies.

Purpose

The purpose of the HDSP Program is to:

  • Develop and coordinate partnerships;
  • Develop scientific capacity to define the burden of heart disease and stroke;
  • Develop an inventory of policy and environmental strategies;
  • Develop a state plan;
  • Provide training and technical assistance;
  • Develop population-based strategies; and
  • Develop culturally-competent strategies for priority populations.

The emphasis of the HDSP Program is to develop a Statewide Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Plan to reduce heart disease and stroke. Activities of the plan will focus on environmental strategies and policy changes that support good nutrition, enhance physical activity, and decrease the occurrence of risk factors for heart disease and stroke.
