The Louisiana Beach Monitoring Program monitors water quality from May 1 to October 31. This website has been established to familiarize you with the Louisiana Beach Monitoring Program. (See Highlighted Facts for sampling frequency at each beach segment)
When data is available, access this URL for updates that will allow you to plan your water recreation activities for safety. The Louisiana Beach Monitoring Program is in compliance with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) and Beaches Environmental Assessment and Coastal Health Act. The State of Louisiana reminds you that if you swim in water bodies in the state, you swim at your own risk.
The water at the beach looks clean, but find out first! Monitoring marine beach water quality by local health officials is necessary to warn citizens when there is a problem. The BEACH Act authorizes a national grant program to assist the state government in developing and implementing monitoring and public notification programs for coastal marine recreation waters. The Louisiana Beach Monitoring Program is 100% in federally funded. In addition to the general swimming advisory in place for Louisiana waters, EPA has developed performance criteria for monitoring, notification and public information databases.
