Louisiana Ryan White Health Insurance Program (HIP)
What is HIP?
The Health Insurance Program (HIP) assists HIV-infected individuals who have existing health insurance coverage through Medicare, PCIP, LA Health Plan, COBRA, group or private insurance policy. Funded by Ryan White Part B funds through DHH-OPH-STD/HIV Program, HIP is designed to assist qualified individuals with eligible premiums as well as medication and medication cost shares (co-payments, co-insurances and deductibles) associated with to a participant’s health insurance coverage.
Cost shares may include outpatient clinician visits, laboratory/diagnostic costs, eye care services and medications covered by the participant’s plan. Funds available through the program may not currently be used for inpatient hospital or erectile dysfunction drug costs shares, over-the-counter medications, vitamins or nutritional supplements.
Who is eligible for HIP?
In order to be eligible to participate in HIP, an individual must have:
· a household income at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines ($33,510 for a household of one)
· an active primary insurance
· documentation of Louisiana residence, and
· an HIV diagnosis.
HIP is currently administered by the HIV/AIDS Alliance for Region Two (HAART).
