BATON ROUGE—In preparation for the upcoming statewide launch, LAHousingSearch.org is expanding each day with the addition of detailed listings of available rental properties. The site already lists detailed information on over 400 available rental units and is currently being utilized by 150 property providers to advertise their vacancies.

The site is designed to match property owners who have rental property with individuals seeking to rent an apartment or house.  The La. Governor's Office, along with the La. Housing Finance Agency, La. Department of Health and Hospitals and the La. Recovery Authority, are sponsoring this valuable service.

“As expected, the number of safe, affordable and comfortable units listed continues to grow,” said LRA Housing Taskforce Chairman Walter Leger. “We look forward to launching the site and providing renters with a quick and easy resource for finding affordable housing free of charge.”

LAHousingSearch.org offers rental property owners, including providers of critically needed affordable and special needs housing, a place to advertise their properties at no cost, while allowing renters to easily find property that fits their needs. The online service is supported by a toll-free bilingual call center that assists landlords with listing properties and provides tenants with need specific, up-to-date housing information by phone, fax or email.

The service will be launched to the general public early next year and is already being searched every day by nonprofits, local and state agencies, and caseworkers to locate housing for individuals and families.

The State of Louisiana joins a growing national movement to provide information on rental housing availability on a free website.  The partnering agencies have contracted with Socialserve.com, a national not-for-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to developing leading-edge, easy-to-use Web applications that give agencies, municipalities and the general public access to tools and information that make it easier to find affordable housing and program information.
