SHREVEPORT—The U.S.A. Weightlifting High Performance and Development Center and the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals' Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports will hold an international invitational at noon on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the LSU Shreveport Health and Physical Education building.
This event will feature the Quebec (Canada) Youth Team facing off against lifters from across the United States, who will compete for the Governor's Cup. Spectators are welcome to attend at no cost.
The event will feature one men's and one women's weightlifting session. The participants will compete in two lifts, the snatch, and the clean and jerk, with the champion being the participant who lifts the most weight successfully. Each lifter receives three attempts in each lift. The top three participants will receive medals, and the winning team gets the Louisiana Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports Governor's Cup.
The U.S.A. Weightlifting High Performance and Development Center is no stranger to hosting international competitions and visitors. Most notably, Christine Girard (Canada, 2012 Olympic bronze medalist) and Kendrick Farris (U.S.A., 2008 and 2012 Olympian) are both former Governor's Games Champions. With competitions and training camps taking place as early as 1996, the center has a remarkable track record of cultivating and maintaining international relationships.
