HR 190 and SR 180 of the 2008 Regular Session requested DHH develop and implement cost control mechanisms for the Long Term Personal Care Services Program and the NOW waiver and to submit a report to the legislature.

HCR 175 of the 2008 Regular Session extended the term of the Adult Abuse and Neglect Study Group to study the existing laws on adult abuse and neglect and the need for laws to protect those who cannot adequately protect themselves themselves; to examine the structure, operation, and outcomes of the programs established to protect vulnerable adults from abuse and neglect in Louisiana; to investigate existing jurisdictions; and to explore ways to maximize resources necessary to viably operate a program that is cost-effective and administratively efficient for the protection of vulnerable adults. The resolution required that a plan to address the needs of adults in need of protective services be submitted to the House and Senate committees on health and welfare, the House Committee on the Administration of Criminal Justice, the Senate Judiciary C Committee, the speaker of the House of Representatives, and the president of the Senate.

SCR 92 of the 2008 Regular Session requested that DHH investigate the high rates of cancer in Livonia and submit a report to the House and Senate committees on health and welfare.

HCR 174 of the 2008 Regular Session requested that DHH study issues related to prohibiting the possession of tobacco products by persons under the age of 21 and report findings to the House and Senate health and welfare committees.

HB 1349 of the 2001 Regular Session created the Louisiana Council on Obesity Prevention and Management within DHH. The bill required that the council submit an annual report to the governor and to the House and Senate health and welfare committees which would update the governor and the legislature on the council's progress toward full implementation of services and programs in the state of Louisiana to increase prevention and management of the disease of obesity in adults and children.

SCR 70 of the 2008 Regular Session created the Nurse-Family Partnership Advisory Council and requests that DHH, in conjunction with the Nurse-Family Partnership, study the expansion of the evidence-based Nurse-Family Partnership and report findings to House and Senate committees on health and welfare.

SCR 40 of the 2008 Regular Session requested that DHH and the LSU system study the use of electronic medical records for certain mental health patients and report findings to the House and Senate health and welfare committees.

HCR312 and SR119 were passed in the 2004 Regular Session. They both call for DHH to “investigate, study, and develop a plan or strategy to modernize and improve the state mental health system, focusing particularly on an assessment of the current operation and maintenance of East Louisiana Mental Health System, Central Louisiana State Hospital, New Orleans Adolescent Hospital and Southeast Louisiana State Hospital, with the resulting plan or strategy detailing how Louisiana can modify the current system to reflect the best practices in mental health care today".
