Baton Rouge - In preparation for the upcoming statewide launch, LAHousingSearch.org is expanding each day with the addition of detailed listings of available rental properties. The site already lists detailed information on over 400 available rental units and is currently being utilized by 150 property providers to advertise their vacancies.

The results of a new door-to-door survey of people living in Orleans Parish show the current population to be 187,525 residents. The study, done with support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Census Bureau, is the first of its kind since hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the Gulf Coast in 2005. Jefferson Parish has 435,786 residents, Plaquemines Parish has 20,024 residents and St. Bernard Parish has 25,016 residents.

Officials with the Department of Health and Hospitals and with the Louisiana State Police announced today that the effort to find the remaining 136 people on the official missing list from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita will transition from the Louisiana Family Assistance Center to local law enforcement agencies.

Incoming college freshmen who cannot obtain the meningitis (either MENACTRA or MENOMUNE) vaccine from their doctors prior to the upcoming Fall 2006 semester will not be barred from starting college.

With a unique mission, Louisiana Family Assistance Center has critical historical data on the missing and deceased victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Now, LFAC’s technical section has compiled various levels of the data in order to give researchers and members of the public a series of maps of the entire region showing the missing, the found and the confirmed deceased by last known location as well as the locations of recovered remains. They have worked over the past month to verify and compile the location data to create the maps, which have just gone live on their website.
