BATON ROUGE (May 17, 2011) - The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is advising residents living, working, or traversing in flood-impacted areas to remain on the lookout for venomous snakes. Snakes may move into residential and commercial areas as flood waters drive them from their habitat.

BATON ROUGE (May 17, 2011) - Louisiana taxpayers in areas of the state affected by the 2011 spring flood are eligible for extensions to file and pay state taxes, the Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) announced Monday.

Today, Governor Jindal held a Unified Command Group meeting with state and federal officials on the impacts of the rising Miss. River. Following the meeting, the Governor held a press conference to give an update on state efforts to combat river flooding, including the sinking of a barge in St. Mary Parish, which the Governor will visit today, aimed at preventing backwater flooding.

OPELOUSAS (May 16, 2011) - The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) is assisting St. Landry Parish officials, the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services and the Louisiana State Animal Response Team in staging assets at the Yambilee Building in Opelousas to prepare an emergency shelter for flood evacuees and their household pets.

BATON ROUGE (May 16, 2011) - The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has closed the portion of Hunt Road on Dewey Wills Wildlife Management Area (WMA) from the Diversion Canal south, effective immediately, due to floodwater impacts.

Today Louisiana officials announced precautionary closures of two oyster harvesting areas that are receiving large amounts of freshwater intrusion from the opening of the Bonnet Carre Spillway and from the Mississippi River.

BATON ROUGE (May 14, 2011) - State agencies continue to respond to and prepare for flooding in Louisiana, particularly as the Corps of Engineers opens the Morganza Spillway on Saturday. Updates on agency activities are below.

As area spillways are opened in an effort to relieve pressure on levee systems, state officials today cautioned residents that state law prohibits driving on levees and parking on shoulders of roadways. In addition to motorists exposing themselves to hazardous conditions from rising water levels, vehicles driven on top of levees can cause damage to levee infrastructures and obstruct official vehicles.

This Vaccination Guidance is an annex to several other plans and guidance documents in which the State of Louisiana has planned for an ¨Dall-hazards¡¬ mass distribution system for the receipt, storage, distribution, and dispensing of vaccinations/medications to the general public.
