Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) Well-Ahead Louisiana Director Melissa Martin will join community leaders tomorrow morning to announce the designation of the first three WellSpots in Alexandria. Well-Ahead is an initiative of DHH launched in early 2014 aimed at making the spaces and places in which we live and work healthier for our residents. Businesses and organizations may complete a set of criteria as part of the initiative. Doing so allows them to be designated a WellSpot.

Baton Rouge, La. - Business owners and officials joined the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) today at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital to announce 35 total WellSpots across the state. WellSpots are places and spaces that have made sustainable changes to make it easier for Louisiana residents aimed at improving health outcomes. The Department also announced the launch of a new website at WellAheadLa.com that makes it easy for users to find WellSpots in their community.

In April, the Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) along with Gov. Bobby Jindal launched the Well-Ahead Louisiana initiative, which encourages healthy behavior and designates organizations as WellSpots. WellSpots are the healthy places around the state that voluntarily champion and embrace health and wellness. WellSpots can be employers, schools, health care providers, universities, child care centers and restaurants. Today, Well-Ahead Louisiana designated its first three WellSpots, Mestizo Restaurant, Mid-City Market and AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana all located in Baton Rouge.

Today, Governor Bobby Jindal and the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) Secretary Kathy Kliebert were joined by dozens of local supporting organizations to launch the Well-Ahead Louisiana initiative, which will designate healthy places around the state that voluntarily champion and embrace health and wellness. The program is a state-wide effort to partner with schools, businesses and other organizations in local communities to give Louisianians more control and ownership of their health.
