The Vaccination Annex of the Louisiana Pandemic Influenza Guidance describes the system that will be used to order, store, distribute, track and administer influenza vaccine during a pandemic. This Vaccination Guidance is an annex to several other plans and guidance documents in which the State of Louisiana has planned for an ¨Dall-hazards¡¬ mass distribution system for the receipt, storage, distribution, and dispensing of vaccinations/medications to the general public.
The Containment and Mitigation Annex directly addresses non-pharmaceutical intervention (NPI) strategies for an influenza pandemic in Louisiana. A variety of NPI have been used during past pandemics with varying degrees of success. Containment and mitigation strategies included in this Annex include isolation of ill individuals; self care / home care for ill individuals; policies and procedures for advising voluntary quarantine of household contacts to known or suspected cases, with monitoring; and social distancing practices within the school, workplace and community settings.
The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) Office of Public Health (OPH) has created this Pandemic Influenza Guidance as a comprehensive containment and treatment plan to assist in the control of an outbreak of a novel influenza virus, such as the 2009 H1N1 influenza virus (“swine flu”) or avian influenza.
