The Functional Behavioral Approach, An Overview
Coordinated System of Care is delighted to bring Matt Pierce to Louisiana to present an overview training of The Functional Behavioral Approach (FBA).
Matt has many years of experience working with youth and families in a variety of settings and is very knowledgeable about working with children involved with child welfare, juvenile justice, as well as the wraparound team process. Most recently, Matt has been working with the FSO in Louisiana and was also here during the early days of CSoC implementation. FBA is aligned with CSoC values and strongly supports wraparound and the CFT process.
One of the greatest challenges of the wraparound facilitator is moving the CFT members away from focusing on the youth's behaviors, to understanding the underlying need(s) the behavior is communicating. FBA offers a way of understanding behaviors from a needs perspective, informed by research on brain development and trauma. FBA conceptualizes 'big' behaviors as arising from skills deficit, rather than a lack of motivation. Matt is an engaging, passionate and energetic presenter.
There will be more information following regarding the exact location and venue. In the meantime, please mark your calendars for the training nearest you.
Schedule of Events:
There are approximately 5 CUE's for social workers and psychologist available for this training.
